Pre-School
Curriculum
Keeping in mind at all times that child development is the key to programming for early childhood education, Temple Beth Shalom Pre-School conduct a development-focused and comprehensive program with the flexibility to respond to individual children and their families. Days and times of classes vary, meeting the needs of toddlers to four-year olds.
Pre-school often is the first experience away from home and separation can be difficult for both parent and child. Our first days of school are devoted to show the child that he or she can get along safely and happily without his parents’ presence.
All of our classes are guided and stimulated by a staff that provides for individual growth. Creative expression through arts and crafts, dramatic play, music, poetry, literature, cooking, science, and more promote the growth and development of the whole child. Each one learns to follow directions, how to use materials appropriately, wait their turn, share toys and recognize the rights of others---all in a loving, fun and cooperative atmosphere.
Our school is a well-integrated, bi-cultural program providing for the development of positive attitudes toward life and the people around them. During the school year, many units of study are covered, such as health, safety, home life, community spirit, transportation, and holidays. Stories, discussions, songs, visual aids, and “show and share” all aid in the development and understanding of these concepts in a way that children can understand and embrace,

Our People’s Heritage
We incorporate into our program a Jewish curriculum which encourages our children to begin to identify with the Jewish community at large and to feel a pride in being Jewish. Our holidays are presented in a developmentally-appropriate manner, using existing knowledge as the building block for new experiences and learning. The sights, the sounds, the tastes, the feels and the smells of Judaism are an integral part of our day at the Temple Beth Shalom Pre-School.
Active cooperation between the home and the school also is a vital part of our program. At this level, both the home and the school are guiding the child in unison. Therefore, we encouraging the sharing of information as teachers and parents pursue the best interests of the child.
