Israelis also incorporated in our curriculum via The Jewish Homeland; Then and Now by The Board of Jewish Education of Greater New York. It is a curriculum that is geared for first through eighth grades. Each grade level has its own age appropriate content area, materials and activities.
The goal of this program is help shape the children’s’ attitudes toward Israel by underscoring the centrality of Israel in one’s Jewish identity and Jewish life. By the end of the Religious School the students should have an emotional ties with Israel and its people, be curious about the State of Israel, have awareness about the centrality of Israel to the Jewish people and have a desire to visit the country.
Some of the major topics to be discussed are:
- Israel as the home of the Jewish people
- Israel as the fulfillment of prayers and dreams of generations of Jews
- The place that concretizes Jewish values
- Israel offers an alternative way of life for the continuity of the Jewish people
- Jewish Cultural center
- Israel’s Parliamentary democracy system
- Israel’s geography and physical aspects
- Israel’s struggle for independence
- The difficulties that Israel is facing today
