USY MIDWINTER CONVENTION

Temple Beth Shalom will be hosting youth groups from synagogues throughout this region at the annual USY Midwinter Convention the weekend of February 10 to 12.

To make this a successful event we need volunteers to house, to chaperone, to set up meals, and to drive.  If you have never been involved in this type of event you DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING.  The demands made upon you are minimal, the rewards of seeing smiling faces is incalculable.

To volunteer or for more information, contact us at LUSYconvention@yahoo.com.

You won't regret it.

A Living Legacy For All!

As you plan your financial future, consider making a gift to Temple Beth Shalom that will last longer than a lifetime.   There are many ways to leave a legacy that lasts beyond  our lifetimes and supports the many wonderful programs at Beth Shalom.   Your gift can be as simple as a bequest in your will, a naming opportunity or a specific purpose fund that you wish to establish.

Free Trip to Israel for Eligible Applicants!

Connect 1 Taglit-Birthright Israel

Enter the Raffle to Win a

Free iPad 2

USCJ is excited to have the opportunity to reach out to our Young Adult population, ages 22-26, for the first time by partnering with The Israel Experience Ltd. to offer a Taglit-Birthright Israel trip in the summer of 2012.  Taglit-Birthright Israel provides the gift of first time, peer group, educational trips to Israel for Jewish young adults ages 18 to 26. The USCJ Connect-1 trip is specifically crafted to reach our young adults in a Conservative movement framework, highlighting some of the many wonderful resources we have in Israel and how we are at the forefront of religious pluralism in Israel.  Because this is a Birthright Israel trip, it is not structured like our high school programs, including the ritual aspects.  Connect 1 will not include any required prayer services with the exception of Shabbat.  This is a unique opportunity to reach those young adults who have not yet been to Israel on a peer experience, and specifically, by doing so in a Conservative movement framework.

We are currently collecting names of potential applicants at:

Birthright Israel

If you refer somebody, you will be entered in a drawing to win an iPad courtesy of The Israel Experience LTD.

Registration opens on February 15, 2012 for a very limited time.  All referrals will receive email registration procedures.

To be eligible for the gift of a trip to Israel from Taglit-Birthright Israel, you must be Jewish and not have been on a peer trip to Israel, so participants on such programs as USY Pilgrimage, Ramah seminar, and most day school trips cannot be considered. You are eligible, however, if you were on such a trip before you were 12 years old, or if you went to Israel with your family or a multi-generational group.

JTS

JTS invites you to attend:  What to Wear - Women, Clothing, Religion

Women's clothing and modesty have been hot news topics in France, Egypt, and Israel recently.  Learn about clothing as a reflection and shaper of culture in this multifaceted exploration of our wardrobe's relationship to religion and culture.
